Harvard-led team runs algorithms on up to 48 logical qubits made of atoms
Dec 6, 2023
Researchers from Harvard, MIT and QuEra report in Nature a processor of up to 280 neutral atoms in reconfigurable arrays that encodes up to 48 logical qubits (error-protected qubits). Using error-detecting codes, the logical qubits beat physical ones on test algorithms.
Why it matters
It moved error protection from one or two logical qubits to whole algorithms; Harvard called it the first demonstration of large-scale algorithms on an error-corrected quantum computer.
